Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

An EC50-value of >1000 mg /l was found when exposing active sludge to the test item Sodium Isobutyrate. The NOEC-value was determined to be >1000 mg /l.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for microorganisms:
1 000 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for microorganisms:
1 000 mg/L

Additional information

The effect of Sodium Isobutyrate solution on the respiration rate of activated sludge microorganisms, typical of those found in domestic sewage treatment, was determined in a respirometric test. The method used is based on the OECD 209 Test Guideline.

An EC50-value of 1000 mg /l was found when exposing active sludge to the test item Sodium Isobutyrate solution. Stimulation (negative value) is not a toxic effect. There was no statistical difference (Dunnett's test p>0,05) on the variable average respiration rate between the control and the test concentration 1000 mg /l, and therefore the NOEC-value is determined to be >1000 mg /l.
