The substance has been shown to possess a 96-hour LC50 in freshwater fish of 402 mg/L and a 48 hour EC50 in aquatic invertebrates of 190 mg/L. In algae, the substance did not exhibit toxicity when tested according to method OECD 201, and a 96-hour EC50 value for cell number was reported to be greater than 1000 mg/L.  Diisopropyl ether was reported to have low toxicity to microorganisms derived from activated sludge, with a 3-hour EC50 value for growth inhibition of 2249 mg/L (measured, arithmetic mean) in an OECD guideline study (Test No. 209).
