PREPARATION AND APPLICATION OF TEST SOLUTION (especially for difficult test substances)
- Method: A stock solution was prepared by adding 14 g test substance to 1 L purified water. The stock solutions were prepared daily and diluted with purified water to achieve the required test concentrations.

Description of key information

In the key-study a LC50-value for fish of 7.1 mg a.s./L could be determined after 96 h after exposure. 

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

One reliable study on the toxicity of AES (C12-14, 1-2.5EO) Na to fish is available. The test was conducted with tap water according to EG Guideline 92/69 C.1 and OECD 203. Zebra fish (Danio rerio) were exposed to nominal substance concentrations of 4.3, 6.0, 8.5, 11.8 and 17.1 mg/L in a flow-trough system. The test concentrations were analytically verified using the MBAS assay (methylene blue active substances assay) as analytic test method. The mean measured concentrations were 4.6, 6.8, 13.9, 12.1 and 17.2 mg/L based on the active substance. The determined LC50 (96 h) was 7.1 mg a.s./L based on the nominal concentration.

In a second, supporting study which could not be fully evaluated as only a short summary is available, zebrafish were exposed in a static system (test following different guidelines). The resulting LC50 -value was in a range of 1 to 10 mg/L.
