Imidazoline DETA

Only one valid ready biodegradability test results for tall oil diethylenetriamine imidazoline is available because fatty amine derivatives are usually toxic and/or poorly available to micro-organisms. Fatty acids tall oil reaction products with diethylenetriamine tested in the presence of silica gel were biodegraded 24% at day 28 in the Closed Bottle. This test substance should therefore not be classified as readily biodegradable. In the enhanced (prolonged) Closed Bottle, test tall oil diethylenetriamine imidazoline was biodegraded 61% at day 60 (AkzoNobel, 2010). The biodegradation reached at the day 60 demonstrates that tall oil diethylenetriamine imidazoline is ultimately biodegradable and not persistent. The biodegradation and or hydrolysis products of tall oil diethylenetriamine imidazoline i.e. fatty acids and diethylenetriamine are readily biodegradable also proving the ultimate degradation of tall oil diethylenetriamine imidazoline.
