Description of key information

The surface tension of dodecylamine hydrochlroides was determined experimentally according to OECD 115 guideline. Since primary
amines exhibit a pKa of about 10.6 they appear protonated under environmental conditions.
In order to determine their surface tension, the corresponding hydrochloride thereof was used.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Surface tension:
51.3
in mN/m at 20°C and concentration in mg/L:
1 000

Additional information

Assuming a surface tension of 72.75 mN/m for pure water, dodecylamine can be regarded as being surface active, as its surface tension is below 60 mN/m.
