Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

E-glass microfibre is assessed to have no acute toxicity by ingestion, by skin contact or by inhalation. E-glass microfibre shall not be classified as an acute toxicant according to the criteria in Council Directive 67/548/EEC and Regulation (EC) 1272/2008.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Testing of acute oral and dermal toxicities is waived based on the fact that E-glass microfibre is inorganic and highly water insloluble. It's physicochemical properties suggest a low potential to cross biological membranes and consequently a low potential for absorption through the gastrointestinal tract and through the skin.

Study of acute inhalation toxicity is waived because results from long-term inhalation toxicity studies are available. Inhalation of E-glass microfibre is highly unlikely to induce acute toxicity. In conclusion, E-glass microfibre is assessed to have no acute toxicity by ingestion, skin contact or by inhalation.

Justification for classification or non-classification

E-glass micro fibre is inorganic. The physicochemical properties suggest a low potential to cross biological membranes. Thus, E-glass microfibre has a low potential for absorption into the body through the skin, the airways and the gastrointestinal tract.

E-glass microfibre is assessed to have no acute toxicity by skin contact or if ingested. E-glass microfibre is inorganic and is evaluated to have low potential for crossing biological membranes and that acute toxicity following inhalation is negligible. E-glass microfibre is assessed to have no acute toxicity by inhalation. In conclusion, E-glass microfibre shall not be classified as an acute toxicant according to the criteria in Council Directive 67/548/EEC and Regulation (EC) 1272/2008.
