Description of key information
weighted half-lives based on the respective half-lives of the Epoxid mono-acrylate and BFDGE at 20, 30 and 50°C:
pH4: 234, 83.5 and 13.1 h
pH7: 287, 99 and 15.2 h
pH9: 230, 71.7 and 12.1 h
OECD Guideline111 / EU method C.7; GLP
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- Half-life for hydrolysis:
- 287 h
- at the temperature of:
- 20 °C
Additional information
Hydrolysis as a function of pH of Epoxy half acrylate at 500 µg a.i./L was studied in the dark at 20, 30 and 50ºC in sterile aqueous buffered solutions at pH 5 (citrate buffer), pH 7 (phophate buffer) and pH 9 (borate buffer) for up to 30 days.
The experiment was conducted in accordance with OECD Guideline No. 111 and Council Regulation (EC) No. 440/2008, Method C.7.
Samples were taken at test start (0 h) and at 10 spaced points until test end. Buffer solutions were analysed at test start and test end and there was no analytical interference with the test item.
Analyses of the test item were performed via LC-MS on a reversed phase column using an external standard. For determination of BFDGE hydrolysate Bisphenol A diglycidyl ether was used as external standard. For the other components the test item was used as external standard. The method was validated with satisfactory results regarding linearity, accuracy, precision and specificity.
The hydrolysis was determined observing the elimination of Epoxid mono-acrylate and Bisphenol-F-diglycidyl ether (BFDGE). Formation or decline over time was monitored for Epoxid mono-acrylate and the other analytes (Bisphenol-F-diglycidyl ether (BFDGE), Epoxid di-acrylate and 1,2 -Propanediol, 3-[4-[[4-(2-oxiranylmethoxy) phenyl]methyl]phenoxyl]-).
Epoxid-mono-acrylate showed a moderate
hydrolysis at pH 4 and 7 at 20 and 30 °C. At pH 4 and 7 at 50°C as well
as at pH 9 a fast elimination of Epoxid-mono-acrylate was observed.
The half‑lives of the test item at 20°C are ranging from 7.38 – 14.5 d
at pH 4, 9.54 – 16.8 d at pH 7 and 4.54 – 12.1 d at pH 9 (based on the
respective half‑lives of the main components).
Reaction rate constants and half-lives as well as weighted half-lives (based on the respective half-lives of the Epoxid mono-acrylate and
BFDGE) were calculated from the analysed samples and are presented in the tables below:
