Justification for the use of different CAS numbers for the same chemical in the REACH dossier:

 

The substance Urea, reaction products with formaldehyde and glyoxal, CAS No. 92908-35-5, was formerly described by 2-Imidazolidinone, 4,5-dihydroxy-1,3-bis(hydroxymethyl)-, CAS No. 1854-26-8, which is a well-defined structure known under the common name ‘DMDHEU’ (Dimethyloldihydroxyethyleneurea). During collection of analytical data it was found to be a complex mixture of different molecules. Consequently it was decided to register the substance under CAS 92908-35-5 which better describes this chemical. However, many of the studies used in the chemical safety assessment in this dossier refer to CAS 1854-26-8. The identity of the test substance in these studies is the same as for the substance defined in chapter 1 of this dossier.

Conclusion on classification

Taking the available information into account (no toxicity up to nominal concentrations of at least 100 mg/l, not readily biodegradable, log Kow <0.3), no environmental classification is warranted according to (67/548) and (1272/2008).
