Description of key information

In the key study the test item was assessed for its acute toxicity in Rainbow trout according to the EU Method C.1 and OECD Guideline 203 (Fish, Acute Toxicity Test) in a static system. In this test, concentrations in the range 0.95 mg/L to 10 mg/L were tested. Based on this 96-hour acute toxicity study, the test item is considered to have moderate toxicity to the Rainbow trout. The NOEC- and LOEC-values were found to be 0.95 mg/L and 1.71 mg/L, respectively. The LC50 was found to be 2.96 mg/L. Similar results were obtained in a supporting study, with the 96 h NOEC determined to be 3.2 mg/L and the 96 h LC50 to be 6.1 (5.2 - 7.2) mg/L.
In addition determination of acute toxicity to fish was carried out with 5-ethyl-2-methylpyridine (MEP, CAS no.: 104-90-5, EC no.: 203-250-0). The read-across between the UVCB substance and the model constituent is justified. A 96-hour acute toxicity study according to EU Method C.1 and OCED Guideline 203 Acute Toxicity for Fish was carried out. Rainbow trout (Salmo Gairdneri) were exposed to nominal concentrations of 100, 55.6, 30.9, 17.2 and 9.5 mg/L. The LC50 determined was between 55.6 mg/L and 100 mg/L. The NOEC- and LOEC-values were found to be < 9.5 mg/L and <= 9.5 mg/L, respectively.
