Description of key information

MK1 Diesel Fuel was pre-registered as 'Distillates (petroleum), hydrotreated light' (CAS 64742-47-8 / EC 265-149-8) but is being registered as a separate substance due to its distinct physical properties.

Additional information

MK1 Diesel Fuel was pre-registered as 'Distillates (petroleum), hydrotreated light' (CAS 64742-47-8 / EC 265-149-8) but is being registered as a separate substance due to its distinct physical properties.

Many petroleum UVCB substances are described in the EC inventory by their boiling range. The boiling range of MK1 Diesel Fuel is prescribed by Swedish Standard SS 155435 as approximately 180-320°C. This does not match the description of the EC substance currently used to categorize MK1 Diesel Fuel: entry 265-149-8 is described by a boiling range of 150-290°C. The generic entry for Diesel Fuel, 269-822-7, also has an inappropriate boiling range of 163-375°C. Therefore the registrants propose to register a separate substance named MK1 Diesel Fuel, with the following description.

A complex combination of hydrocarbons obtained by treating a petroleum fraction with hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst. It consists of hydrocarbons having carbon numbers predominantly in the range of C10 through C18 and boiling in the range of approximately 180°C to 320°C.
