Description of key information

Tetrahydromethylphthalic anhydride (MTHPA) changed to the dissociated substance, which was stable under the chosen conditions.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Biodegradation in water:
under test conditions no biodegradation observed

Additional information

The ready biodegradability of tetrahydromethylphthalic anhydride (MTHPA) was studied in a Modified MITI Test (I). The test item was exposed to activated sludge at 24.0 - 26.0 degree C for 28 days. The oxygen and test material measurements were performed in triplicate. MTHPA changed to the dissociated substance, which was stable under the chosen conditions.

Hence, the test item is considered to be not ready biodegradable.

The study was conducted according to the OECD guideline 301 C.
