Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Studies on aquatic organisms are available for members of the fatty acid category. For the fatty acid mixture, C12 -14, no studies are available. Thus, read-across is performed to studies conducted with the pure homologues which are contained (> 10%) in the mixture. PNEC (freshwater and marine)-calculations are based on LC50/NOEC-values available for these constituents. In case of PNECstp the EC10 of a microorganism study conducted with octanoic acid (C8) is used. PNECsediment and PNECsoil are based on equilibrium partitioning method on the basis of freshwater and marine PNEC-values. Due to the low potential for bioaccumulation, PNECoral is not determined.

Conclusion on classification

Acute and long term toxicity data are available for all three trophic levels (fish, aquatic invertebrates and algae). The lowest short term effect value was determined for aquatic invertebrates with an EC50 (48 h) of 3.6 mg/L. The lowest long term effect value is available for invertebrates with a NOEC (21 d) of >= 1.3 mg/L(TWA, measured). Furthermore the substance is readily biodegradable and thus CAS 90990 -10 -6 is not classified according to the consolidated version of Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 and further amendments (ATPs).
