Description of key information

Valid studies only reported:

P putida, 17hr EC10=722mg/l, EC50=964mg/l

Sewage micro-organisms, 3 hr EC50>1000mg/l, IC50=2800mg/l

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for microorganisms:
964 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for microorganisms:
720 mg/L

Additional information

A guideline study using activated sludge respiration inhibition as a measure of toxicity to micro-organisms showed an EC20 of >=900mg/l. In a guideline study where basic details were reported, the bacteria P. putida were exposed to 2 -butoxyethyl acetate to concentrations in excess of 1g/l. The study concluded a 17hr EC50 of 964mg/l and an EC10 (which can be considered a NOEC) of 720mg/l. In a bacterial growth inhibition test using sewage microorganisms and turbimetry as the end point, the substance was found to inhibit growth by 50% at a concentration of 2800mg/l (IC50 =2800mg/l). It can be concluded that the substance has relatively low toxicity to bacteria.
