Description of key information

Not surface active at 1 g/L.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Surface tension:
71.5
in mN/m at 20°C and concentration in mg/L:
1 000

Additional information

A fully reliable, GLP, experimental study was conducted with hexamethylenediamine at the maximum concentration of 1 g/L in demineralized water at 20°C. The result was 71.5 mN/m, which is very close to the value of water, and much above the threshold of 60 mN/m, therefore the substance is not considered as a surface active agent.

A supporting litterature data gives an informative value of 0.0346 N/m for anhydrous liquid HMD at 60°C.
