Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The 5 day NOEC is 2 mg/L. TLM QSAR was used to calculate EL50 of isoprene towards activated sludge. The calculated EL50 is 262.105 mg/L.

The lowest value was used for chemical safety assessment.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC10 or NOEC for microorganisms:
2 mg/L

Additional information

Huntingdon Life Sciences (2003) investigated the toxicity of isoprene to microorganisms as part of an OECD TG 301D biodegradation screening test. The biodegradation of sodium benzoate both in the presence of and without isoprene was studied. Huntingdon Life Sciences found that isoprene was not inhibitory to the biodegradation of sodium benzoate at the concentration tested. Therefore, isoprene is not considered inhibitory to microorganisms at 2 mg/L.
