With high probability acutely not harmful to fish.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The results on acute toxicity to fish indicate that glyoxal is not harmful for fish since the LC50 values are consistently above 100 mg a.i./L.Although readily biodegradable, glyoxal is relatively stable in aqueous solution for some days. This was inter alia confirmed in one of the algae studies (BASF, 1996) where analytical verification of uninoculated samples demonstrated mean recovery rates of 83–101% after 72 h (inoculated samples showed mean recoveries of 56–85%).
