Additional information

The toxicity of Glyoxal 40% to soil microorganisms was tested in two GLP guideline studies following OECD TG 216 and 217, respectively.

In the OECD 216 study, effects on nitrogen transformation were not observed up to 400 mg a.i./kg soil dw. The EC10 and the EC50 were both > 400 mg a.i./kg soil dw (BASF 2009; report No. 37G0496/013026). Normalizing to 3.4% standard soil organic matter content, this corresponds to EC10 and EC50 > 1054 mg a.i./kg soil dw.

In the OECD 217 study, the EC50 for effects on carbon transformation/soil respiration was also > 400 mg a.i./kg soil dw. The EC10 was 240 mg a.i./kg soil dw (BASF 2009; 38G0496/013025). Normalizing to 3.4% standard soil organic matter content, this corresponds to an EC50 > 1054 mg a.i./kg soil dw, and EC10 = 633 mg a.i./kg soil dw.
