Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

No biodegradation observed in activated sludge simulation test (OECD TG 303 A).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

In an activated sludge simulation test (BASF, 1990), no biodegradation of EDTA (see IUCLID section 13 for read-across justification) was observed under the conditions of the test (0 -10% based on DOC removal after 70 days).

According to the EU RAR for EDTA (60-00-4), no adsorption onto the organic fraction of sediments is expected due to the ionic structure under environmentally relevant pH conditions. Furthermore, the substance is ultimately biodegradable. For these reasons, a sediment simulation test is waived.
