Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Under Column 2 of the Annex VIII of Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 it is laid down that the toxicity testing with microorganisms, the activated sludge respiration inhibition testing, does not need to be conducted if there isno emission to a sewage treatment plant or if the substance is highly insoluble in water. Due to the very low to insoluble nature of the substance, the substance is less likely to be distributed by the hydrological or cross biological membranes. As seen in the short-term fish toxicity study conducted by Holland et al. (1993) and presented in this dossier, the very low solubility of the test substance can make testing difficult. Additionally, HMBDA is an intermediate product and utilized at only one facility in the EU and handled under strictly controlled conditions. Therefore, exposure to microorganisms is expected to be minimal. No further testing is proposed.
