Description of key information

In accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex VII, the determination of oxidizing properties (required in section 7.13) is not applicable to gases.
In general, molecular chlorine is a strong oxidiser and chlorinating agent, adding to double bonds in aliphatic compounds or undergoes substitution reactions with aliphatic and aromatic species.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Oxidising properties:
yes

Additional information

Molecular chlorine is a strong oxidiser and chlorinating agent, adding to double bonds in aliphatic compounds or undergoes substitution reactions with aliphatic ad aromatic species and is thus classified as oxid. gas cat.1 (H 270: may cause or intensify fire; oxidizer) according to CLP (GHS).

Justification for classification or non-classification

Molecular chlorine is a strong oxidiser and chlorinating agent, adding to double bonds in aliphatic compounds or undergoes substitution reactions with aliphatic ad aromatic species and is thus classified as oxid. gas cat.1 (H 270: may cause or intensify fire; oxidizer) according to CLP (GHS).
