Description of key information

The toxicity to green algae ( Raphidocelis subcapitata) was examined in a study in accordance with OECD TG 201 and in compliance with GLP. In this study algae were exposed to nominal concentrations of 0.427, 0.939, 2.07, 4.55 and 10 mg/L for 72 hours under static conditions. Biomass and inhibition of growth rate were determined. Test concentration analysis revealed actual levels of test substance of 0.380, 0.883, 1.94, 4.65 and 9.22 mg/L (geomean t=0 and t=72h). Statistically significant effects on growth rate and biomass compared to controls were first seen at 1.94 mg/L and 0.883 mg/L, respectively. Based on these data the NOErC was determined at 0.883 mg/L. With regard to growth rate ErC10 and ErC50 values were determined at 2.45 mg/L and 4.54 mg/L, respectively.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
4.54 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
2.45 mg/L
