Description of key information

The % degradation (% ThCO2 formation) exceeded 10% within 2 to 3 days for both concentrations of the test material and subsequently exceeded the 60% pass level within the 10 day window.
Therefore, epoxidised soybean oil is readily biodegradable.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Biodegradation in water:
readily biodegradable

Additional information

There is no ready biodegradability data available for EPO. A read across approach was conducted with a ready biodegradability study from ESBO (EC No. 232-391-0).

The read-across ready biodegradability study (RL2) was conducted according to OECD 301 B. In the study, the % degradation (% ThCO2 formation) exceeded 10% within 2 to 3 days for both concentrations of the test material and subsequently exceeded the 60% pass level within the 10 day window. Therefore, epoxidised soybean oil is readily biodegradable.

The full read-across report justification is attached.
