According to REACH Annex VII Section 7.8 column 2, if the substance is not soluble in water, it is not necessary to measure the Log Kow. In this case a calculated value should be provided. The substance has a water solubility of < 0.3 mg/L, hence it is not possible to perform the study. Initially, an attempt was made to calculate the Log Kow based on the water solubility in water and in n-octanol. This was not successful since the substance was miscible with n-octanol in all proportions. The Log Kow was calculated using two methods - the calculation method of Verschueren (which resulted in a Log Kow value of >4.86 and the fragment method within KOWWIN v 1.68, which resulted in a Log Kow of 4.69.
