Description of key information

In a growth inhibition test on Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata according to OECD guideline 201 no effects were observed with a saturated solution of tin sulfide. Therefore, the 72-hr EC50 is > 34 µg a.i./L and the 72-hr NOEC is >= 34 µg a.i./L (equal to soluble fraction from nominal concentration of 100 mg/L).

Calculated for ditin trisulfide the 72-hr EC50 is > 38 µg/L and the 72-hr NOEC is >=38 µg/L (equal to soluble fraction from nominal concentration of 100 mg tin sulfide/L).

The toxicity of tin disulfide on algae (Desmodesmus subspicatus) was tested in a limit test at the limit of water solubility which was determined for algal medium as 11 µg/L (analytical determination during the test) according to OECD guideline 201. No inhibition was observed. Hence, the test item has no effect on the growth of the test organism under the tested conditions.

Based on this information it is considered that also ditin trisulfide has no effect on the growth of the test organism under the tested conditions.
