Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

OECD 201-EU-Method C.3_Selenastrum capricornutum: Based on nominal loading rates of Water Soluble Fractions (WSF): EbLR50 (72 h) = 5.4 mg/L; EbLR50 (96 h) = 4.6 mg/L; ErLR50 (24-48 h) = 7.6 mg/L; NOEC = 2.5 mg/L. Based on concentrations of test material in WSF: EbC50 (72 h) = 2.3 mg/L; EbC50 (96 h) = 2.0 mg/L; ErC50 (24-48 h) = 2.8 mg/L; NOEC = 1.3 mg/L.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
4.6 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
2.5 mg/L

Additional information

A study was performed to assess the effect of the test material on green alga Selenastrum capricornutum. The method followed OECD Guideline 201 (1984) as well as EU-Method C.3 and US Code of Federal Regulations, Title 40, Part 797, Section 1050. Selenastrum capricornutum was exposed to a Water Soluble Fraction (WSF) of the test material at loading rates of 0.625, 1.25, 2.5, 5.0 and 10 mg/L (three replicate flasks per concentration) for 96 hours. ELR values based on effective loading rates of the test material were calculated. Exposure of Selenastrum capricornutum to the test material gave an EbLR50 (72 h) value of 5.4 mg/L loading rate WSF, an EbLR50 (96 h) value of 4.6 mg/L loading rate WSF and an ErLR50 (24 - 48 h) value of 7.6 mg/L loading rate WSF. The NOEC was 2.5 mg/L loading rate WSF. Based on the results of the test sample analyses, EC50 values were also calculated in terms of the amount of test material present in the WSFs: The EbC50 (72 h) based on the 0 -hour measured test concentrations was 2.3 mg/L, the EbC50 (96 h) was 2.0 mg/L and the ErC50 (24 - 48 h) was 2.8 mg/L. The NOEC amounts to 1.3 mg/L.
