Guidance on Safe Use
Administrative data
First-aid measures
In case of accident or if you feel unwell seek medical advice (show label or SDS where possible).
After inhalation
Move to fresh air, keep the victim laying down and restful. If breathing has stopped, give artificial respiration. Seek medical advice and clearly identify substance.
After contact with the skin
Wash with plenty of water or water and soap. Seek medical advice in case of continuous irritation. Remove contaminated or soaked clothing.
After contact with the eyes
Rinse immediately with plenty of water. Seek medical advice in case of continuous irritation.
After swallowing
Do not induce vomiting. Danger of aspiration. Seek medical advice immediately and produce the label or packaging.
Fire-fighting measures
Fight fire from a safe distance.
Suitable extinguishing media:
water spray, extinguishing powder, alcohol-resistant foam. For small amounts: carbon dioxide.
Extinguishing media which must not be used for safety reasons:
water jet.
Special exposure hazards arising from the substance or preparation itself, combustion products, resulting gases:
Hazardous combustion products: hydrogen chloride.
Special protective equipment for fire fighting:
Use respiratory protection independent of recirculated air.
Accidental release measures
Wear personal protection equipment. Avoid inhaling mists and vapours. Avoid contact with eyes and skin.
Environmental precautions
Contain any fluid that runs out using suitable material (e.g. earth). Prevent material from entering sewers or surface waters. Dispose of in prescribed marked containers.
Methods for cleaning up
Absorb with a liquid binding material such as diatomaceous earth and dispose of according to local/state/federal regulations. Contain larger amounts and pump up into suitable containers. Do not flush away with water.
Further information:
Eliminate all sources of ignition.
Handling and storage
Precautions for safe handling:
Ensure adequate ventilation. Must be syphoned off in situ. Keep away from incompatible substances in accordance with section 10.2 of SDB.
Precautions against fire and explosion:
Cool endangered containers with water. Flammable vapors may accumulate and form explosive mixtures with air in containers, process vessels, including partial, empty and uncleaned containers and vessels, or other enclosed spaces. Keep away from open flames, heat and sparks. Take precautionary measures against electrostatic charging.
Storage:
Conditions for storage rooms and vessels:
Do not store in containers made of aluminum or other light metals.
Advice for storage of incompatible materials:
none known .
Further information for storage:
Keep in the original container in a cool well ventilated place. Keep container dry and tightly closed. Protect against moisture.

Exposure controls / personal protection
-
Exposure limited and controlled:
Exposure in the work place limited and controlled:
General protection and hygiene measures:
Do not eat, drink or smoke when handling. Do not breathe vapours. Avoid contact with eyes and skin.
Personal protection equipment:
Respiratory protection
gas mask filter A . In case of long or strong exposure: positive pressure self contained breathing apparatus .
Hand protection
protective gloves coated with neoprene . Wear gloves for short periods only < 10 mins. .
Eye protection
tight fitting protective goggles .
Skin protection
protective clothing, protective goggles/face protection .
Exposure to the environment limited and controlled:
Prevent material from entering surface waters and soil.
Stability and reactivity
If stored and handled in accordance with standard industrial practices no hazardous reactions are known.
Conditions to avoid:
none known.
Materials to avoid:
Reacts with: acids. Reaction causes the formation of: methanol and chloroacetaldehyde.
Hazardous decomposition products:
By hydrolysis: methanol and chloroacetaldehyde.
Disposal considerations
Recommendation:
Dispose of according to regulations by incineration in a special waste incinerator. Observe local/state/federal regulations.
Uncleaned packaging:
Recommendation:
Completely discharge containers (no tear drops, no powder rest, scraped carefully). Containers may be recycled or re-used. Observe local/state/federal regulations. Uncleaned packaging should be treated with the same precautions as the material.
