Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

In total, two studies on the substance itself (EC 400-830-7) and two studies on EC 407-000-3 (structurally similar to the monoester component) are available.

According to the studies on the substance itself, degradation rates below 24% were determined. For the monoester form primary degradation of 57% to3-[3-tert-butyl-5-(2H-benzotriazol-2-yl)-4-hydroxyphenyl] propionic acid could be observed.

Two studies under aerobic and anaerobic conditions on a structural analogue of the monoester form (EC 407-000-3) revealed degradation to 3-[3-tert-butyl-5-(2H-benzotriazol-2-yl)-4-hydroxyphenyl] propionic acid followed by degradation to numerous minor fractions and incorporation of residues into the organic matter of the sediment. The DT50 values for 3-[3-tert-butyl-5-(2H-benzotriazol-2-yl)-4-hydroxyphenyl] propionic acid are 40 to 64 days. The mineralization was low.

In conclusion, EC 400-830-7 consists of a diester and a monoester form. The diester form did not show any potential to biodegrade in the test systems. It remained stable and unchanged. However, the monoester form was hydrolyzed to 3-[3-tert-butyl-5-(2H-benzotriazol-2-yl)-4-hydroxyphenyl] propionic acid. Under aerobic conditions this metabolite was shown to further degradeto numerous minor fractions and incorporation of residues into the organic matter of the sediment. TheDT50 values for3-[3-tert-butyl-5-(2H-benzotriazol-2-yl)-4-hydroxyphenyl]propionic acidare 40 to 64 days. The mineralization was low.
