Description of key information

The melting point for FC-72 is < -86 °C.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

In the key study, warming curves were used to determine a melting point range of -87.1 to -86.05 °C for perfluoro-n-hexane and a glass transition temperature range of -140 to -136 °C for perfluoro-2-methylpentane. The procedure was documented. However, the study was not conducted in accord with GLP guidelines; therefore, the results are considered reliable with restrictions. The data included in the report was for the purified isomers rather than for FC-72 itself.

The company data sheet reports a pour point for FC-72 of -90°C; this value is included in a table of physicochemical properties only and cannot be assessed as to reliability.
