As the target substance is hydrolytically unstable, the Log Kow value of the target substance is not relevant for further risk assessment, Instead, the degradation/hydrolysis products, i.e. acetic anhydride and acetic acid are taken into account in the assessment. The substance is composed of acetic anhydride (5 -10 wt. %), adipic acid,di-anhydride with bis(acetic acid) (50 -62 wt. %) and acetic acid (30 -35 wt. %). The physical and chemical properties of the target substance substance are related to the properties of acetic anhydride due to several possible side reactions and the decomposition of the product. Therefore the Log Kow value of acetic anhydride (-0.577) is used as a key value in the CSA.
