First-aid measures

INHALATION

Remove from further exposure.  For those providing assistance, avoid exposure to yourself or others.  Use adequate respiratory protection.  If respiratory irritation, dizziness, nausea, or unconsciousness occurs, seek immediate medical assistance.  If breathing has stopped, assist ventilation with a mechanical device or use mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.

SKIN CONTACT

Wash contact areas with soap and water.  Remove contaminated clothing.  Launder contaminated clothing before reuse.  For hot product: Immediately immerse in or flush affected area with large amounts of cold water to dissipate heat. Cover with clean cotton sheeting or gauze and get prompt medical attention.

EYE CONTACT

Flush thoroughly with water for at least 15 minutes. Get immediate medical assistance. If medical assistance is not immediately available, flush an additional 15 minutes.

INGESTION

Give one or two glasses of water if patient is alert and able to swallow.  Seek immediate medical attention.  Do not induce vomiting.

Fire-fighting measures

EXTINGUISHING MEDIA

Appropriate Extinguishing Media:  Use water fog, foam, dry chemical or carbon dioxide (CO2) to extinguish flames.

FIRE FIGHTING

Fire Fighting Instructions:  Evacuate area.  Prevent run-off from fire control or dilution from entering streams, sewers or drinking water supply.  Fire-fighters should use standard protective equipment and in enclosed spaces, self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).   Use water spray to cool fire exposed surfaces and to protect personnel.

Unusual Fire Hazards:  Hazardous material. Firefighters should consider protective equipment indicated in Section 8.

Hazardous Combustion Products:   None.

FLAMMABILITY PROPERTIES

Flash Point [Method]:  >105C  (221F)

Flammable Limits (Approximate volume % in air):   LEL:  1.1 %V     UEL: 6.6 %V

Autoignition Temperature:  N/D

Accidental release measures

NOTIFICATION PROCEDURES

In the event of a spill or accidental release, notify relevant authorities in accordance with all applicable regulations.

PROTECTIVE MEASURES

Avoid contact with spilled material.  Warn or evacuate occupants in surrounding and downwind areas if required, due to toxicity or flammability of the material.  See Section 5 for fire fighting information.  See the Hazard Identification Section for Significant Hazards.  See Section 4 for First Aid Advice.  See Section 8 for Personal Protective Equipment.

SPILL MANAGEMENT

Land Spill:  Stop leak if you can do so without risk.  Do not touch or walk through spilled material.  Prevent dust cloud.  Small Dry Spills:  With clean shovel, place material into clean, dry container and cover loosely; move containers from spill area.  Small Spills: Absorb with earth, sand or other non-combustible material and transfer to containers for later disposal.

Water Spill:  Stop leak if you can do so without risk.  Confine the spill immediately with booms.  Warn other shipping.  Remove from the surface by skimming or with suitable absorbents.  Seek the advice of a specialist before using dispersants.

Water spill and land spill recommendations are based on the most likely spill scenario for this material; however, geographic conditions, wind, temperature, (and in the case of a water spill) wave and current direction and speed may greatly influence the appropriate action to be taken.  For this reason, local experts should be consulted.  Note:  Local regulations may prescribe or limit action to be taken.

ENVIRONMENTAL PRECAUTIONS

Large Spills:  Dyke far ahead of liquid spill for later recovery and disposal.  Prevent entry into waterways, sewers, basements or confined areas.  For Large Spills: Cover spill with plastic sheet or tarpaulin to minimise spreading.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Appropriate engineering controls: No special requirements under ordinary conditions of use and with adequate ventilation.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

Respiratory protection: In the case of vapour formation use a respirator with an approved filter. The applicable European standard can be found in EN 14605.

Hand protection: Solvent-resistant gloves Before removing gloves clean them with soap and water. Please observe the instructions regarding

permeability and breakthrough time which are provided by the supplier of the gloves. Also take into consideration the specific local conditions under which the product is used, such as the danger of cuts, abrasion, and the contact time. The selected protective gloves have to satisfy the specificationsof EU Directive 89/686/EEC and the standard EN 374 derived from it.

Eye/face protection : Eye wash bottle with pure water. Tightly fitting safety goggles. Wear face-shield and protective suit for abnormal processing

problems. Ensure that eyewash stations and safety showers are close to the workstation location. The applicable European standard can be found in

EN 166.

Skin and body protection : Impervious clothing. Choose body protection according to the amount and concentration of the dangerous substance at

the work place. The applicable European standard can be found in EN 140, EN 137, EN 143, EN 14387.

ADVICE ON GENERAL OCCUPATIONAL HYGIENE

Hygiene measures : When using do not eat or drink. When using do not smoke. Wash hands before breaks and immediately after handling the

product. Remove contaminated clothing and protective equipment before entering eating areas.

ENVITONMENTAL EXPOSURE CONTROLS

General advice : Prevent entry into waterways, sewers, basements or confined areas. Local authorities should be advised if significant spillages

cannot be contained. Do not flush into surface water or sanitary sewer system. Prevent further leakage or spillage if safe to do so. Retain and dispose of contaminated wash water. Try to prevent the material from entering drains or water courses. If the product contaminates rivers and lakes or drains inform respective authorities.

CONDITIONS TO AVOID:  Excessive heat.

MATERIALS TO AVOID:   Strong bases,  Strong oxidisers,  Water

HAZARDOUS DECOMPOSITION PRODUCTS:  Material does not decompose at ambient temperatures.

HAZARDOUS POLYMERIZATION:  Will not occur.

Disposal considerations

Disposal recommendations based on material as supplied.  Disposal must be in accordance with current applicable laws and regulations, and material characteristics at time of disposal.

DISPOSAL RECOMMENDATIONS

Product is suitable for burning in an enclosed controlled burner for fuel value or disposal by supervised incineration at very high temperatures to prevent formation of undesirable combustion products.

REGULATORY DISPOSAL INFORMATION

European Waste Code:  13 02 XX

NOTE:  These codes are assigned based upon the most common uses for this material and may not reflect contaminants resulting from actual use.  Waste producers need to assess the actual process used when generating the waste and its contaminants in order to assign the proper waste disposal code(s).

Empty Container Warning Empty Container Warning (where applicable):  Empty containers may contain residue and can be dangerous.  Do not attempt to refill or clean containers without proper instructions.  Empty drums should be completely drained and safely stored until appropriately reconditioned or disposed.  Empty containers should be taken for recycling, recovery, or disposal through suitably qualified or licensed contractor and in accordance with governmental regulations.  DO NOT PRESSURISE, CUT, WELD, BRAZE, SOLDER, DRILL, GRIND, OR EXPOSE SUCH CONTAINERS TO HEAT, FLAME, SPARKS, STATIC ELECTRICITY, OR OTHER SOURCES OF IGNITION.  THEY MAY EXPLODE AND CAUSE INJURY OR DEATH.
