Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Based on structural formulas approach and DSC analysis, the test substance is considered as non explosive

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Explosiveness:
non explosive

Additional information

In order to determine if experimental study relative to explosives properties was required, an analysis was conducted on the constituents of the test item. Based on the chemical structure and literature data, the potential explosives properties of each constituent of the test item were determined. A Differential Scanning Calorimetry analysis of the test item was also performed to confirmed the results on explosives properties found by chemical structure and literature review.

The explosives properties of the test substance are consistent with the properties of an analogue substance. The analogue is "Reaction product of naphthalene, propan-2-ol, sulfonated and neutralized by caustic soda" is non explosive. The same method was used for the analogue substance and the test substance to determine this parameter.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on most recent approach of structural formulas, the product is not expected to have explosive properties. In addition, the Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) graphs of the product show an exothermic effect with an energy lower than 500 J/g, what confirms that the product isn’t likely to be explosive. Accordingly, the product is not expected to present a significant hazard for explosivity. So the product is considered non explosive
