Additional information

Skin irritation

A skin irritation test for Lemongrass oil with reliability 2 and 'moderately irritating' as a result is available. This result is considered not sufficient to conclude on this endpoint. Therefore, based on the constituent Citral (CAS 5392-40-5), present at a typical concentration of 77.9% and currently classified as H315 (Skin Irrit. 2), Cymbopogon flexuosus/Lemongrass oil is considered to be classified as H315 (Skin Irrit. 2) as well.

Eye irritation

An eye irritation test (BCOP) for Cymbopogon flexuosus (Lemongrass oil) with reliability 1 and an inconclusive result is available. This result is considered not sufficient to conclude on this endpoint. Therefore, based on the constituent Geraniol (CAS 2106-4-1), present at a typical concentration of 3.1% (range 2 -10%) and currently classified as H318 (Eye Dam. 1), Cymbogon flexuosus is considered to be classified as H318 (Eye Dam. 1) as well.

Effects on skin irritation/corrosion: irritating

Effects on eye irritation: corrosive

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on the skin irriting properties of the main constituent, Cymbopogon flexuosus (Lemongrass oil) is classified for skin irritation (Skin Irrit. 2 / H315) in accordance with the criteria outlined in Annex I of 1272/2008/EC (CLP/EU-GHS).

Based on the eye damaging properties a major constituent, Cymbopogon flexuosus should be classified as eye damaging (Eye Dam. 1 / H318) in accordance with the criteria outlined in Annex I of 1272/2008/EC (CLP/EU-GHS).
