Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The adsorption coefficient of test substance hydrogen [4-[4-(diethylamino)-2',4'-disulphonatobenzhydrylidene]cyclohexa-2,5-dien-1-ylidene]diethylammonium, sodium salt (CAS No. 129-17-9) was determined as per the HPLC method (OECD Guideline-121). The Log Koc value was found to be 3.628 ± 0.135 at 25°C. This indicates that the chemical shall have strong adsorption potential to the soil/sewage sediment.

Additional information

Experimental study report and studies of adsorption endpoint for the target chemical Hydrogen[4-[4-(diethylamino)-2',4'-disulphonatobenzhydrylidene]cyclohexa-2,5-dien-1-ylidene]diethylammonium, sodium salt (Cas no. 129-17-9) and its read across chemical were reviewed to summarize as follows:

The key study from experimental report (UERL laboratory report; 2016) for adsorption coefficient Koc in soil and in sewage sludge of target chemical hydrogen [4-[4 -(diethylamino)-2',4'-disulphonatobenzhydrylidene] cyclohexa-2,5-dien-1-ylidene]diethylammonium, sodium salt (CAS No. 129-17-9) was determined by the Reverse Phase High Performance Liquid Chromatographic method according to OECD Guideline No. 121 for testing of Chemicals. The reference substances were chosen according to estimated Kocrange of the test substance and generalized calibration graph was prepared. The reference substances were chosen according to estimated Kocrange of the test substance and generalized calibration graph was prepared. The reference substances were 4 chloroaniline, 4 methylaniline, N methylaniline, 2 Nitrophenol, Nitrobenzene, 4-Nitrobenzamide , N,N-dimethylbenzamide, N-methylbenzamide, Benzamide, phenanthrene having Kocvalue ranging from 1.239 to 4.09. TheLog Kocvalue was found tobe3.628 ± 0.135 at 25°C.

Other experimental study from HSDB authorative database for target indicate that the adsorption coefficient (Koc) of substance C.I. Acid Blue 1 was found to be 15 using a measured water solubility of 30,000 mg/land a regression-derived equation.

This Koc value suggests that C.I. Acid Blue 1 has very high mobility in soil.

And read across substance Brilliant blue (Cas no. 3844-45-9) from HSDB database indicate that the Brilliant Blue is expected to be mobile in soil; this compound will almost entirely exist in anion form in the environment and anions generally do not adsorb more strongly to soils containing organic carbon and clay than their neutral counterparts.

Whereas other supporting study for read across Fast Green FCF (Cas no. 2353-45-9) from same source i.e HSDB database indicate that the Fast Green FCF is expected to be mobile in soil; this compound will almost entirely exist in anion form in the environment and anions generally do not adsorb more strongly to soils containing organic carbon and clay than their neutral counterparts.

Thus based on above all experimental studies for target chemical and for read across substances it is concluded that the target chemical Hydrogen[4-[4-(diethylamino)-2',4'-disulphonatobenzhydrylidene]cyclohexa-2,5-dien-1-ylidene]diethylammonium, sodium salt (Cas no. 129-17-9) have highly to moderate mobility in soil/sediment.
