Results and discussion
Flammable solidsopen allclose all
- Key result
- Test procedure:
- other: burning index according to VDI 2263
- Remarks on result:
- other: burning index BZ 4
- Remarks:
- glowing without sparks (smouldering) or slow decomposition without flame
- Key result
- Test procedure:
- burning rate test: preliminary screening test
- Remarks on result:
- substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period
Pyrophoric solids
- Test procedure:
- ignition time on contact with air
- Remarks:
- Ignition on contact with air refers to either Pyrophoric solids or Pyrophoric liquids depending on physical state (migrated information).
- Remarks on result:
- no ignition on contact with air (not further specified)
- Remarks:
- corresponding to 'no' in migrated source record.
Any other information on results incl. tables
The product showed a smouldering fire when an ignition source (flame or hot wire) was applied at ambient temperature. A slow propagation of the combustion was observed. The product became swollen and did not melt.
The combustion behaviour of the product at ambient temperature is characterized by the burning index BZ 4 (glowing without sparks (smouldering) or slow decomposition without flame).
Due to the fact that a propagation of the combustion was observed the burning time over a distance of 200 mm had to be determined. Preliminary test: The smouldering fire extinguished after approximately 50 mm. Therefore the main test to determine the burning rate was not required.
Applicant's summary and conclusion
- Interpretation of results:
- non flammable
- Remarks:
- Migrated information
- Conclusions:
- The smouldering fire extinguished after approximately 50 mm. Therefore, the substance has not to be classified as highly flammable solid according to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008.
