Description of key information

In aquatic algae toxicity study for 72 hrs. on Scenedesmus capricornutum species the effective concentration was found to as followed:
EC50=0.86 mg/L (72 h) at biomass effect
EC50=1.96 mg/L (72 h) at growth rate effect
NOEC=0.5 mg/L(72 h) at growth rate effect
NOEC=0.5 mg/L(72 h) at biomass effect

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
1.96 mg/L

Additional information

In aquatic algae toxicity study for 72 hrs. on Scenedesmus capricornutum species the effective concentration was found to as followed:

EC50=0.86 mg/L (72 h) at biomass effect

EC50=1.96 mg/L (72 h) at growth rate effect

NOEC=0.5 mg/L(72 h) at growth rate effect

NOEC=0.5 mg/L(72 h) at biomass effect

All experimental values indicate that the test substance2-cyclohexylidene-2-phenylacetonitrile was categorized in aquatic category 1 and 2 as per the CLP criteria.

Supporting study from predicted model (ECOSAR v1.1 )indicate that the Effect concentration (EC50) for the test compound 2-cyclohexylidene-2-phenylacetonitrile in a 96h study using green algae is 1.771 mg/L.

This EC50 values indicate that the test substance is toxic to aquatic environment and catogerized in aquatic chronic 2 as per the CLP criteria.
