Description of key information

The melting and boiling temperature of dinonylnaphthalenesulphonic acid (DNNSA) and Barium bis(dinonylnaphthalenesulphonate) (BaDNNSA) were determined using DSC. The melting temperature (glass transition) of the acid was -18°C (255K). For Ba DNNSA reaction and/or decomposition of the substance was observed. Based on structural similarities it is expected that ZnDNNSA decomposes before melting. No value for the melting point can be assessed.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The results on Barium bis(dinonylnaphthalenesulphonate) were chosen for the read-across, because this salt is a solid like zinc bis(dinonylnaphthalenesulphonate), while the acid is a liquid at room temperature.
