Description of key information

ISOPENTYRATE is considered to be flammable liquid (category 3) according to regulation (EC) 1272/2008 (CLP regulation) - see endpoint 4.11

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
flammable

Additional information

In accordance with section 2 of REACH Annex XI the Flammability test for solid relevant for classification criteria under 4.13 do not apply to liquids and is scientifically unjustified for ISOPENTYRATE due to its physical state. The flammability of liquids is determined on basis of their flashpoint (in combination with their boiling point), their ability to emit flammable gases upon contact with water and their pyrophoricity.

In accordance with section 1 of REACh Annex XI, studies for flammability if contact with water, and for pyrophoric properties, are deemed unnecessary based on the chemical structure of the substance that do not fall into critical categories described in ECHA guidance. Considering that the molecular structure of ISOPENTYRATE does not contain groups that indicate potential reactivity with water or pyrophoric properties and that the experience in handling and use of this substance confirms the lack of hazard., the study is considered as scientifically unjustified.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The already reported flashpoint being higher than 23°C but lower than 60 °C (cf section 4.11), ISOPENTYRATE is considered as a flammable liquid (category 3) according to Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 (CLP regulation).
