Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

(Z)-3-methyl-2-(pent-2-en-1-yl)cyclopent-2-enone (CAS 488-10-8) is well soluble in water (1.48 g/L, OECD 105) and has a low vapour pressure (0.91 Pa, 20 °C OECD 104). Since only limited data on the environmental fate of the substance are available, (Q)SAR calculations were performed to estimate the log Koc. The estimated log Koc is 2.47 (KOCWIN v2.00), indicating a low potential for adsorption to particles present in soil and sediment. Thus, the substance is expected to be mobile in water. The experimentally determined log Kow of the substance is 2.8 (pH 7, OECD 117), indicating a low potential for bioaccumulation, which is in line with the low, estimated log Koc. Moreover, the substance is readily biodegradable based on the result of a standard biodegradation study (68% after 28 d, OECD 301 F). Consequently, abiotic degradation via hydrolysis is not a relevant degradation pathway. According to the Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment, Chapter R.7b, readily biodegradable substances can be expected to undergo rapid and ultimate degradation in most environments, including biological Sewage Treatment Plants (ECHA, 2016).
