Key value for chemical safety assessment

Skin sensitisation

Endpoint conclusion
Additional information:

In accordance with REACH Annexes VII and VIII column 2 adaptation, studies on skin sensitisation do not need to be conducted as the substance is flammable in air at room temperature. No studies have been conducted on skin sensitisation with 1,2-butadiene but there are no indications from repeat dose studies on its structural analogue, 1,3-butadiene, that it causes skin sensitisation.

Migrated from Short description of key information:
There are no data on skin sensitisation and no indications that 1,2-butadiene is a skin sensitizer. Studies on skin sensitisation do not need to be conducted as the substance is a flammable gas at room temperature.

Respiratory sensitisation

Endpoint conclusion
Additional information:

No studies have been conducted on respiratory sensitisation with 1,2-butadiene or other similar molecules but there is no data to indicate that 1,2 -butadiene would cause respiratory sensitisation

Migrated from Short description of key information:
No studies have been conducted but there are no data to indicate that 1,2-butadiene is a respiratory sensitizer.

Justification for classification or non-classification

There is no indication that 1,2 -butadiene causes skin or respiratory sensitisation and therefore, according to the EU and GHS/CLP criteria, 1,2 -butadiene does not require classification for sensitisation properties.
