Description of key information

A test was conducted examining the effects of Flumetsulam on glucose-stimulated short-term respiration and mineralization of nitrogen from ground alfalfa in a Canadian soil. In this study, ammonification was not significantly affected by either concentration of Flumetsulam tested.  Conversion of NO2- to NO3- was not inhibited by the test material. Neither of the Flumetsulam treatments inhibited respiration rate more than 15% after day 3.

A test was conducted examining the effects of Flumetsulam on glucose-stimulated short-term respiration and mineralization of nitrogen from ground alfalfa in a Canadian soil. The study was conducted to the Canadian guideline and to GLP standard. The study was considered robust enough to be the key study for this endpoint.

The test was performed in two concurrent phases: the first phase examined the effect of the herbicide on glucose-stimulated soil respiration and the second measured ammonium, nitrite and nitrate ions. One control, and one negative control were used, as well as two levels of herbicide treated soils (0.2 mg/kg and 2 mg/kg). Ammonification was not significantly affected by either concentration of Flumetsulam. Conversion of NO2-to NO3-was not inhibited by the test material. Neither of the Flumetsulam treatments inhibited respiration rate more than 15% after day 3.
