Principles of method if other than guideline:
The differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) allows to record the difference in heat flow of two crucibles, one filled with test substance and the other left empty as reference, while these crucibles are subjected to a controlled temperature programme. A transition of the test substance, such as melting or evaporation, is indicated by a deviation from the base line in the heat flow record. Because melting and evaporation are processes in which heat is consumed, the deviation from the base line is in the endothermic direction for these processes. The melting temperature or boiling temperature of the test substance is evaluated from the DSC curve as the extrapolated onset temperature of the endothermic melting or evaporation peak.
As a safety precaution for the DSC cell a preliminary test was performed using a thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA).

In Experiment 1, 3 and 4, no effects were observed during cooling.

To further investigate the melting temperature of the test substance, two samples of the test substance were stored for 21 hours at -22.1 ± 0.2°C and -81.7 ± 1.8°C respectively. It was observed after storage that the test substance was a liquid (-20°C freezer) and a very viscous liquid (-80°C freezer). According to this it was concluded that the melting temperature of the test substance is < -80°C (< 193K).

Conclusions:
The freezing temperature of the test item has been determined to be less than -80°C (<193K)
Executive summary:

A study was conducted to determine the freezing point of Dimetol by applying a storage experiment in the freezer and by using a DSC analysis designed to be compatible with Method A1 Melting/Freezing Temperature of Commission Regulation (EC) No 440/2008 of 30 May 2008 and Method 102 of the OECD Guidelines for Testing of Chemicals, 27 July 1995.

It was observed that the test item was a very viscous liquid after storage at -80°C (freezer) and no effect was observed by DSC during cooling. Therefore, the freezing temperature of the test item has been determined to be less than -80°C (<193K); The atmospheric pressure was 1010 +/- 2hPa.
