Description of key information

Despite the large numerical difference between the two calculated partition coefficients (in the range of -3.17 to -1.86 and based on the notional solid structure), the negative values indicate that the notional solid structure has a greater affinity for the water phase, and, hence, is more hydrophilic.

The partition coefficient of 50% aqueous solution of gluconic acid was based on the notional solid structure and was calculated using the ACD/I-Lab service ACD/LogP v8.02 and the Estimation Programs Interface (EPI) SuiteTM United States Environmental Protection Agency MPBPVP Program (v1.43), both considered of Klimisch-2 reliability. The predicted values for log Kow of gluconic acid are -3.17 (at 25°C) and -1.86 (no temperature reported), based on ACD and EPI Suite calculations, respectively.
