Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

No data are available for the toxicity of silane (CAS 7803-62-5; EC No. 232-263-4) to the aquatic compartment. Requirements to test are waived because the substance is a pyrophoric gas and, therefore, testing is not technically feasible.

In addition, the physicochemical hazards associated with the substance mean that it must be handled under highly controlled conditions and significant exposure of the aquatic compartment is not expected.

Based on the exposure scenarios in Section 9 of the CSR, there is no significant release to water during production and on-site processing as an intermediate, nor for any other uses as described in Section 2 and Section 9 of the CSR. There is no contamination of sewage treatment plant effluent or sludge and subsequently, no contamination of the terrestrial compartment through sludge spreading.

Regional exposure could, in theory, occur due to deposition of air-borne substance. However, due to the extremely volatile and reactive nature of the substance, this is expected to be minimal.
