Constituent 1
Reference substance name:
Trimethylhexa-1,6-diyl diisocyanate
EC Number:
249-151-6
EC Name:
Trimethylhexa-1,6-diyl diisocyanate
Details on test material:
Hexamethylene diisocyanate, toluene diisocyanate, hexyl isocyanate and other isocyanates (analogy)

Results and discussion

Details on results:
In-vitro assays showed that all isocyanates tested were potent inhibitors  of human cholinesterase activity. Hexamethylene diisocyanate was one of
the most active inhibitors in titration experiments (complete inhibition  at molar ratios of 4:1 to 8:1 (isocyanate:enzyme)) or when applied as  vapour
at 1 ppm. The authors conlude that this effect may be an  explanation for the observed respiratory symptoms noted upon exposure to  these
isocyanates.
