Animal studies show that 1,1,1,2,3,3,3-heptafluoropropane (HFC 227ea) has low acute inhalational toxicity.
In accordance with section 2 of REACH Annex XI, an acute oral and dermal toxicity study do not need to be conducted as the substance is a gas.
Available acute inhalation toxicity studies with 1,1,1,2,3,3,3 -heptafluoropropane indicate that the acute inhalation toxicity study is low.
In the key study (WIL Research Laboratories, 1992) no mortality was observed and a 4 h-LC50 > 788696 ppm (5483776 mg/m3) was established. At this concentration, only transient signs of anaesthesia during the exposure period and a decreased body weight and body weight gain at the end of the 14 -day observation period were observed.
Based on 4 h LC50 of > 788696 ppm (5,483,776 mg/m3) in rats in a reliable OECD guideline study, 1,1,1,2,3,3,3 -heptafluoropropane does not have to be classified for acute toxicity in accordance with EU Directive 67/548/EEC and EU Classification, Labeling and Packaging of Substances and Mixtures (CLP) Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008.
