Description of key information

The substance does not contain chemical groups associated with explosivity (see IUCLID 4.23, chemical composition of a representative substance). Main constituent is sulphuric acid.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Explosiveness:
non explosive

Additional information

Sulphuric acid, the main constituent of this inorganic UVCB (except water and minor amounts of soluble metal salts) is not considered to be explosive. This judgement is based on the evaluation of the chemical structure and from experience in handling and use.

The OECD SIDS notes however that Sulphuric acid is a strong acidic oxidizing agent which can cause ignition or explosion in contact with many materials.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Conclusion is furthermore confirmed by handling & use experience.
