Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

PBT assessment: overall result

PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

A read-across is proposed to fulfil the requirements of PBT/vPvB assessment between di-tert-dodecyl polysulfides (TPS) and di-tert-dodecyl disulfide (DTDDS). TPS and DTDDS are not readily biodegradable. TPS is very persistent in the sediment compartment (DT50 > 180 days at 20°C). By analogy, DTDDS is also considered very persistent in the sediment compartment. Both substances are therefore P/vP according to criteria of annex XIII of REACH regulation EC 1907/2006. TPS and DTDDS both have a log Kow value of 12.5, which indicates that they should not have a high potential for bioaccumulation. This was confirmed in a bioconcentration study in fish for TPS (BCF = 0 L/kg). TPS is therefore not B/vB according to criteria of annex XIII. By analogy, DTDDS is not considered B/vB either. As a conclusion, TPS and DTDDS are not PBT and not vPvB according to criteria of annex XIII of REACH regulation EC 1907/2006.
