Description of key information

Explosiveness: Non explosive (EU Method A.14)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Explosiveness:
non explosive

Additional information

No explosivity data are available for the submission substance, 2-(3,4-epoxycyclohexyl)ethyltrimethoxysilane (CAS No: 3388-04-3), therefore reliable data for the analogue substance 3-(2,3-epoxypropoxy)propyl]trimethoxysilane (CAS No: 2530-83-8) have been read-across. Both substances are trimethoxysilanes containing an epoxy functional group attached to the silicon side chain. The calculated oxygen balance of 2-(3,4-epoxycyclohexyl)ethyltrimethoxysilane was -188 and that of its structural analogue was -156. [3-(2,3 -Epoxypropoxy)propyl]trimethoxysilane was found to be not explosive in a reliable standard study conducted in accordance with EU Method A.14. It can therefore be concluded that the presence of an epoxy group in an organosilicon compound is not associated with explosive properties. Additional information is given in a supporting report (PFA 2013c) attached in section 13 of the IUCLID dataset.

Justification for classification or non-classification

There is no evidence to suggest that the substance should be classified for this endpoint.
