Description of key information

The substance is not surface active.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

In accordance with Column 2 of REACH Annex VII, the surface tension study (required in Section 7.6) does not need to be conducted if the substance is not expected to be surface active based on the chemical structure.

The substance does not contain hydrophilic groups considered as active in respect of surface tension and commonly recognized as prerequisite for surfactants like:

Nonionic types

Cationic types

Quaternary, tertiary and primary amines

Anionic types

Acids, phosphonic groups

Sulphonates etc…

Amphoteric types

Glycinates, propionates

Furthermore the substance does also not contain typical hydrophobic groups usually found in surfactants.

Typical examples of anionic surfactants and encountered carbon chain length

In conclusion the substance does not possess surface active properties. Additionally it is not an intended property.

In the light of these facts further testing in respect to these properties is not required.
