Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

fish

The acute toxicity of the test item Hostavin N 20 to fish (zebrafish) was determined according to OECD-Guideline for Testing of Chemicals No. 203. A static test with 5 concentrations from 6.25 to 100 % saturated solution* was performed. The concentrations of the test item Hostavin N 20 were analysed via LC-MS/MS at all concentration levels at test start and test end. The recovery rates of Hostavin N 20 were at the end of the study in the range of 86 – 105 % of the initial concentrations. All effect levels are given based on geometric mean measured concentrations of the test item Hostavin N 20 . The LC50(geometric mean measured test item concentration, 96 hours) of Hostavin N 20 was > 3.62 mg/L which is above the saturation level. No effects were found at all tested concentrations.

In an additional study the acute toxicity of the test item to the freshwater fish Brachydanio rerio has been investigated. LC50 (96 hours) was above 100 mg/l (nominal concentration).

daphnia

In the acute immobilisation test with Daphnia magna (STRAUS) the effect of the saturated solution as limit concentration of the test item Hostavin N20 was determined according to OECD 202. The limit test was conducted under static conditions over 48 h.At the saturated solution of the test item Hostavin N20 P no biologically significant effect was determined.

alga

The toxicity of Hostavin N 20 to the unicellular freshwater green alga Desmodesmus subspicatus was determined according to the principles of OECD 201. A saturated solution* of 60 mg/L was prepared. The saturated solution and further four dilution levels were tested in a geometrical series with a dilution factor of 10, nominal: 1.0-3.2-10-32 and 100 % of the saturated solution. The concentrations of Hostavin N 20 were analysed at all concentration levels after 0 and 72 h via LC-MS/MS analysis. At the end of the test Hostavin N 20 gave recoveries of 70 - 99 % of the initial measured values. All effect values are given based on geometric mean measured concentrations of the test item.

In this study Hostavin N 20 was found to inhibit the growth of the freshwater green alga Desmodesmus subspicatus after 72 h with the following effect values (geometric mean measured test item concentrations): The EC50-values with 95 % confidence intervals for inhibition of specific growth rate (ErC50) and yield (EyC50) after 72 h were 398 (334 - 463) and 126 (92.9 - 191) µg/L, respectively. The NOEC for both the inhibition of the specific growth rate and the yield was 73.3 µg/L, the LOEC for inhibition of the specific growth rate and the yield was 369 µg/L.

bacteria

A Respiration Inhibition Test with activated sludge according to OECD Guideline No. 209 was carried out with the test item. The test was carried out under static conditions with the nominal test item concentrations 10 - 32 - 100 - 320 - 1000 mg/L. The respiration rates of the control, reference and test item replicates were measured after a contact time of three hours, and the inhibitory effects of the test and reference item were determined in comparison to the control respiration rates. The mean inhibition of respiration for the test item replicates ranged from 5 % to 80 %.

The EC10 is 15.6 mg/L and the EC50 is 65.9 mg/L to activated sludge of a municipal sewage treatment plant.
